An attack that works

An attack that works
Barcelona comes to the second break in League action this season after scoring 18 goals in six games, an average of three per match. This is the best performance by the team since the 1981/82 season.
In that campaign, with Udo Lattek in the dugout, the side found the net on twenty occasions in its first six matches. Josep Guardiola’s team has now put an end to concerns about its goal scoring ability after only getting one in its first two League encounters and now seems to be scoring at will.

Top goalscorers

Those 18 goals put Barcelona at the top of the First Division goal scoring table level with Real Madrid. Both also have the same number of points, but Barça’s superior goal difference means that for the first time this season they are in a Champions League spot.

Defence, midfield and attack

It’s not only Barça’s strikers who are scoring. While Messi and Eto'o have most goals, midfielders like Gudjohnsen, Xavi and Iniesta and defenders such as Márquez have also found the net in the League.

Plus Barça is scoring from all over the place: in open play, from free-kicks, with headers, from corners, penalties, rebounds etc. Eight goals have been scored with the right foot, five with the left and there have been five headers.
